i have a regular interview, writing sample, and then i teach real 1st graders. Ahhhh!

i am your number 29 result for "change dirty poop messy daughters diapers."
what is the google blurb that comes up?
"... God used FIF as a vehicle to change many peoples lives (ours included ... soooooooooo, i'd better start writing, otherwise i will be dirty, hungry, and have ... poop. ... "

do responsible teachers have a drink at 11.30 pm? (T- 9 hours)
do responsible teachers shower at 1.30 am? (T- 7 hours)
do responsible teachers decide to "plan" the math lesson "in the morning?" (T- 1.5 hours)

the answer to all these questions is.... probably not.

i will be the teacher with dark circles under their eyes, dressed like crap, eating oatmeal while driving. who won't know what she is teaching. whose master teacher will think she is irresponsible. who can't write decent english and i wasted almost 1/3 of my drink. it is sitting there, flat. and warm. and.... no.

my master teacher now wants me to come in at 7.45 am. AAAAAH! that means i need to leave my apartment between 7.10 and 7.15 every morning. i am sooooo not a morning person, unless by morning you mean 2 am.

in the last two weeks, i have spent $100 on gas. i hate you, commute.

Saturday, April 24, 2004

i've been neglecting you.

i'm sorry.

sooooooooooo have you ever noticed how much historical fiction is written for little girls? hardly any of it is for boys. it is quite annoying.

starting next week, i will be teaching an integrated unit on westward expansion and manifest destiny. i'm bringing in a bunch of reading books for them, but it is really hard to find any about boys. i know there are some, but none of them are on the accelerated reader quizzes that the school has. :oP

the kids were supposed to write some questions for the state bingo game we play in class. Like, one of the questions might be, "which state is home to mount rushmore?" and then the answer would be south dakota.

one boy wrote the following:
"my state is something you can bie (sic) at a sporting goods store."

answer.... new jersey!

i laughed for that one.

w00t!

guess who has an interview with a school district?
next week.
almost 5 hours away.

me! i'm going to shingle springs, folks. i'd have an oral interview, writing sample, and then teach a 20 min lesson for twenty first graders. i got to choose between 1st and 5th... i'm still not completely sure why i chose 1st grade. hmmmmm, sarah. don't you like upper graders better?

well, it is friday the 30th, and i'll have to haul my butt up to northern california that morning, and head back down that night i guess. i need to talk to my master teacher about getting the day off.

oh my

Sunday, April 18, 2004

aaah!!! i need to start looking at my lesson plan book earlier than sunday night. geez. i have no idea what i'm doing for p.e. monday and tuesday. i don't even know if the school has any p.e. equipment.

i'm tired and not thinking- instead of going to blogger i went to google and started typing my post into the search box.

one of my 5th graders was wearing this dumb shirt today. it had a basketball player on it, and said, "your shooter is like your momma's house- it ain't got no heat." it took me a while to figure it out, and i still think it is terrible. and ain't? oh my.

dude. i know, you're kinda cool what with the in-n-out license plate frame (like mine) and the in-n-out t-shirt, but you're not cool enough that i'll let you park in my parking lot.

IT IS NOT YOUR PARKING LOT

you have one, it is right outside your door. you have 2 spots per apartment, plus an extra in that lot. our lot has one less than two spots per apartment. you park in MY parking lot all the freakin time. our apartments may look the same but they belong to different companies, you see. and.... you don't even park in marked spots. you park in that place that blocks in a car, EVEN THOUGH there were about 6 empty spots at the time.

i don't care that there were empty spots. usually, there aren't and then i cant park like yesterday.

don't try to argue with me. i'm pissed off that i will often drive home after working with 36 ten year olds for 7 hours without pay and not be able to park in my own parking lot because you are an asshat.

i will win this argument. i'm older than you, taller than you, smarter than you, cuter than you, and actually have a legal right to the piece of asphalt you park your cruddy red truck on every week.

today i completed the paperwork to be a substitute teacher when my master teacher is absent.

i also had my first day as a homework helper for children of migrant farm workers. it is one hour, three times a week. (in the classroom that i student teach in) i had a bit of a surprise- i thought it was going to be about $12 an hour, but i found out today that it is $25 an hour!!!! woohoo sarah

also, i got a nifty email last night from jeanette, one of my original internet buddies. we are talking 1998, baby. she and i used to post on this five iron frenzy message board, and we keep in touch a bit. here is her blog and website.

blah blah blah
that is a quote.

m., i understand how you felt. i want to tell people "blah blah blah" when i am bored/annoyed/pissy. that would be oh so first grade.

i miss my cute little first graders. now i have kids who want to call me sarah. i liked it when my kids thought i was 43 years old, lived at the school, and had miss as a first name.

the little prince is a beautiful book. they just found the author's plane in the bottom of the sea. (it was a huge mystery in france, like amelia arehart is here.)

Tuesday, April 06, 2004

inexplicably, i've had a nasty stomachache since i woke up this morning. i thought i was done with the acheage sunday!

my master teacher sent me home during recess. he said i looked terrible

also, pepto bismol tablets are cool in theory, but have not seemed to help. hmmmmm

the job fair went well. i interviewed with v3ntura unified, fruitva1e (bakersfie1d), and evergr33n (san jose). the one with evergr33n went the best (all the interviews were fine, but that one was awesome), and i wouldn't be that suprised if i hear back from them.

he's my brother.

i've been in my pyjamas since friday evening.

Saturday, April 03, 2004

oh, score!!!

there was a last minute addition to the list of school districts participating in monday's teacher job fair at cal poly.

number 50 is v3ntur4 unifi3d! i am soooo excited. that is a place that i could imagine living for the rest of my life, whereas none of the other districts would make me happy permanently. my aunt teaches in ventura, and they already told me i could live with them if i needed to. and the schools in the district are quite nice.

here is the list of districts i will be trying to get an interview with monday. big lines of teacher wannabees try to charm the district reps so they get an interview in the afternoon. basically, everyone runs in to try and get to their most desired district table first. i'm totally in luck that ventura just added themselves yesterday.

so,
1. v3ntur4 unifi3d
2. 1os o1ivos
3. fruitva1e
4. evergr33n e1ementary
5. napa va11ey
6. conej0 va11ey
7. carme1
8. panam4-buen4 vist4
9. c4tholic schoo1s of slo
10. coa5t unified

you'll have to wish me luck monday. also, i'm feeling a little better. could i have had the 12 hour flu? hmmm, we'll see

i'm rather ill.

i have a 100.3 degree fever, which beats my father's temperature of 100.1

i watched the 1948 french version of gigi. it was filmed soon after the end of WW2. i guess it is very rare to see- MGM bought the rights and then never let it out when they planned their holywood musical version. (if you've seen gigi, it was the holywood version)

i had some trouble watching the movie seeing as i am feverish, my eyes burn a little, and the subtitles were very poor. they were white, and 25% of them were unreadable due to being against a white background. i had to deduce a lot of what was going on, and it hurt my poor sick little head.

but then ben came by and gave me a quick neck rub which made things much better.

he also made me sick toast and tea. :o)

today i taught the fifth graders for the first time. it was a completely off the cuff lesson on how to find the area of a triangle, and where that formula comes from. (thats sixth grade math)
