We're in escrow.

At least that is what I hear.

After five days of ridiculous back and forth (We signed this one. What? They signed the wrong one? Okay, let's sign that one. Wait. We signed the wrong one.) we FINALLY have our signature on the same piece of (faxed) paper as the seller of the house. So, escrow.

I hear that supposedly in the next few days a seriously huge amount of money will be leaving our possession and entering the shadowy land of "escrow." And then later, a whole lot more money disappears. How fun!

They're inspecting for termites tomorrow morning. General inspection over the weekend. Roof and the obviously damaged chimney are forthcoming... I wonder what fun tidbits they shall find!

!!! NEWS !!!

We are IN. The offer was accepted! They want us to pay an extra $2,700 but they're giving us much more than that back in closing costs paid and repair allowance, which we didn't even ask for.

Details will be coming together tomorrow, but we should be in escrow this weekend.

And it only took 141 days!

I haven't shared this before, but here is the photo of the house that I took on January 17th, almost 4 months before the house was put on the market.

I took this completely by chance. (See my May 8th post here.) I've viewed having taken this photo as some kind of omen, and felt like the chance of this happening is so remote, that it is so weird, that it had to mean something.

As you can see, it is a cute little house with some interesting quirks. Like the little porch? What you can't see is the marble floor and how wonderful it was with a few little chairs and a table. There is a planter-topped wall that goes halfway across the opening, and it looks like it would be a perfect place to just sit and be. The second door off the porch goes to the third bedroom, which is also accessed through the kitchen. It has it's own half bath. I want it to be my creative room.... Just inches behind that garage door is a wall, and absolutely no track or mechanism to roll the door up. And a kitchenette. And a bathroom.

The house is wonderful and strange, and fixed up and screwy. I really hope this all works out. I'm finally letting myself be so hopeful that I almost want to cry.

I should have more news tomorrow. Once we sign the papers, we're going to head over and water that lawn! ;o)

You like?

My handknitted grocery bag and I went shopping today, and bought the ingredients for gruyere, gorgonzola, and apple panini. They were tasty to the max.

Knitting and waiting and watching the grass die

Whoops. Sorry for the radio silence again.

Still here... still waiting. The last "news" was that the assistant lady was very sorry and is trying to help, but wouldn't have access until "early next week." Since "early next week" starts tomorrow, I guess it's time to get my hopes up again. I'm starting to feel like if the answer is yes, they wouldn't have waited so damn long until they could re-issue the letter or give us the info or whatever it is. It's gotta be a "we want more money."

Meanwhile, I've been knitting colorful cotton shrugs for 4 little girls. Oh, and two cotton dresses. I'm a bit obsessed. Coping mechanism? Maybe. It took me 6 days to do Ellie's shrug, and now that I'm starting to freak out more I knitted her twin sister's in 2.

Now that it is bedtime, I'm going to go to bed and... cast on for another shrug!

idiots

They sent the letter to the borrower's address, not the realtor's. Augh! So we have three choices:

1. It was forwarded to wherever the people have moved to, and when it eventually arrives the people may or may not open it and may or may not call the realtor selling the house.

2. It was returned to sender because the mailman knows the house is vacant.

3. It is sitting inside the third bedroom of the house, which is where the mail slot goes into.

I keep not posting on here because I think, hey! Maybe my next post should be about what we hear in this letter thingy!!

But, DUH, the letter hasn't arrived even though it "should arrive soon if it hasn't already" since it was "mailed" on "Monday."

HAHAhAHAHahahahdhhdhahdkdshgsgdfh gsfgkfdshgkla gdshf gdfhkawlg.

Tomorrow makes 120 days the house has been on the market. We put our offer in 4 months ago on Monday. If we make it to the 4 month mark without getting the stinking letter, I am going FREAK OUT EVEN MORE. Perhaps I shall throw something. Everyone keeps asking me if we got the house, and it drives me nuts to keep saying that we haven't heard anything still. Other homebuyers I know who are doing the short sale thing and started weeks after us are already in escrow. Some are actually moved in to their new homes.
