misfortune falls on some people so much harder than on others. evidently m., my neighbor back in irvine, is going blind. she was born with cerebral palsy and mental retardation. now she's going blind, too, because of a genetic disease unconnected with the cp. she's about my age- we used to play together as kids, and i'd hang out with her to help when her parents went somewhere in high school. it makes me feel really bad, cause i've owed her a visit this year, and haven't gone by.

i heard some good news today, though.... my aunt who has been going through chemotherapy for colon cancer found out that the lumps in her breast are not, in fact, breast cancer.
