Today...

I caught one of my students stealing from me
I spent 12 hours and 15 minutes at work
I cried because a coworker doesn't like me, in front of another coworker (male)
I only cleaned two out of the seven remaining areas of my room

It is almost 9 and I haven't eaten dinner

Things are greeeeeeeeaat

It is the day all teachers dread. A day of horror and endless toil...

OPEN HOUSE

duh duh duhhhhhhhhh

I wish Thursday was a week away, because only 2 out of the 9 or so zones of my classroom are beautifully, perfectly clean.

To give you an idea, my industrious work of today included the following:
-stapling awesome paisely fabric from Wal-Mart around the edges of the computer tables to hide the boxes underneath
-washing the two tables by the door
-using a magic eraser to clean all the dirty handprints on the walls
-stapling up new springy tulip border on bulliten board
-throwing away a huge pile of old, ungraded assignments
-making new pile of "things that need to be filed (eventually)"

I still need to clean my library area, computer desks, guided reading table, parent helper area, my desk (it is awful), my bookcase (awful awful), and my teaching table in the front of the room (tear out my eyes awful)

I have tommorow 3.40-6ish and Thursday 1-6.30 to get this done. :oP

Let's not call them late fees. Let's call them "My little way of donating to our local public library system."

Last year when Steve and I were looking at cars for me, a salesman came up to the Tribute we were sitting in and asked us...

"How are you ladies doing tonight?"

Just for ya'll- my new music from the last two weeks:

Arcade Fire- Funeral
I've been meaning to buy this CD for almost TWO YEARS. (Since it came out) I finally got around to it, and I really wish I'd done it sooner. Pitchfork gives it a 9.7/10, which isn't something that happens often. Great CD. Was reccommended to me by a music store employee because I am a fan of Neutral Milk Hotel.

The Decemberists- Picaresque
I wanted to get this CD because I heard that it was less stagey than their other albums, and the stageyness is the only problem I have with The Decemberists. I like it! Good CD. Not as revolutionary as Arcade Fire, but worth it if you've liked the Decemberists in the past but kinda were turned off by all the pirate songs and such. Not that there are no pirate songs, but... uh... they are a little bit less sea chantey like... 8.3/10 from Pitchfork.

Wolfmother- self titled
What to say? I heard this band on the radio. This album isn't available in the US for another month or something, but you can (gasp) illegally download it. They are Australian. They make completely non-ironic 70's music. Linked review is from Rolling Stone. I think this CD is awesome, and I made all the boyfriend's car stereo friends listen to it this weekend while they were over at his house doing boy things. ***.5/*****

Speaking of Neutral Milk Hotel, here is a review of them by Pitchfork. Only 10/10 review I think I've ever seen.

Newly engaged ex-friends:

1. College roomate's ex boyfriend. (They dated 2.5 years, he has been with current girl like.... a year? and a half?) Obviously my roomie was better. No taste! You have no taste I tell you!
2. Friend from high school who was 6'2." I won the title "tallest girl" only after she graduated. She was proposed to with a giant lego creation. Go nerds!

I like my hair. The day I wash it, I put a little bit of gel in and walk out the door with it wet. Then, the next day, I leave for work usually without even brushing it or touching it at all...

And I still get compliments on it.

This week was report card week. That means loooooong days. Somehow I managed to sneak in a bit of apartment cleaning AND cooking a nice dinner for a friend. (Yellow shrimp and coconut rice.)

62 days of school left.

I broke my laptop a bit this morning. It fell about 3 1/2 feet out of my car and onto the asphalt in the school parking lot. The optical mouse steve gave me to use with it was destroyed. The USB plug bent and came apart, and the cord sheared off of it. The computer initially seemed fine, but then turned off and refused to come back on. Thank god I was able to revive it by simply taking out the battery and putting it back in. There is a tiny scratch on the case and the latch mechanism might be broken, but otherwise it seems fine.

Of course, this guy wins, as he ran over his powerbook with a car. And it still worked.

As soon as I started hearing about "Brokeback Mountain" a few months ago, I decided that gay cowboys must be some big popular thing, as I had read a rather graphic gay cowboy story as a part of my Gender in 20th Century Literature class (aka the sex class) four years ago. While watching the Oscars tonight, I realized that the short story I read WAS Brokeback Mountain.

yeaaaaaah...

Well, damn! I kept saying I just want to rent an Eichler, and now there's one in my desired location, actually up for rent! Of course it is 4 br and 3300 a month...

After further searching, I have found that there are, indeed, many Eichler homes for rent in the county. None of them allow dogs. None of them are in my price range. I'm still excited about it.

Hey! So, uh. I don't have the clap.

Not that I ever thought I did, or that I even possibly could, but I guess they tested me for it.

Doctor: "We offer blahblahblahblah clap blahblahblah everyone under 25."
Me: "Uh, haha! Whatever! I don't think... uh... Don't really need..." ::fidget::

And then two weeks later I get a letter in the mail! See what happens when for some reason you are too embarrased to say that you don't think you need to be tested for the STDs?
