Wedding thoughts part 1

I have to get going with the wedding planning. I think I'm a bit behind, and I have had the SCARY SCARY realization that the whole wedding thing is happening in oh... 4 months. Good lord. That is not long at all.

Anyways, would I be completely insane if I wore these shoes, these beige-y snakeskin patent leather awesome shoes, with this wedding dress? I secretly have been wanting to. In fact, I ordered them at the mall Sunday afternoon. I have them in black, and I've wanted them in this color too. If I can wear them for my wedding, I'll actually have wedding shoes I'll wear normally. Uh... also, Nordstroms had no other shoes that worked. Not one pair of cream sandals or open toed anything in size 11 or 12 with around a 1.5 inch heel. What is with this? It was either flats or 3 inch heels. I don't think I want to be 6'4" for the wedding, thank you.

The wedding will be outside, in the afternoon. I won't have a veil. Maybe there will be flowers in my hair, maybe I'll have some sort of headpiece.

Scary major things that I probably am screwed for not having set up yet:
-Florist
-Cake
-Decorations
-I've never seen the place I'm getting married

I wore my new socks today, and I am happy to say that they are comfy and fit exactly right. They also made me feel sooooo cute. I'll probably make more socks sometime soon. They don't take THAT long, and they are useful. Besides, I already have enough yarn for two more pairs.

I went shopping today and bought too much cute baby stuff to go with the sweater I made. One pair of pants, two onesies, and three pairs of matching socks. Um, plus I also bought myself two pairs of shoes, some special wool wash, and a teaching book about PE games. Yikes. I don't think I've been shopping for months. I certainly made up for it today!

I've been sick the whole last week, and all my motivation to actually do something today has dissapeared. This is mostly due to the fact that Steve is no longer coming back from Japan tomorrow. His company extended his trip until Friday. So now I am sad and upset about it, and don't feel like cleaning anything or doing the shopping, because why bother? It'll just be me and Tony for another week. I was supposed to be getting the keys to our new place, but I found out that that has been postponed until tomorrow.

This is the first I've been out of bed today. I had cereal in bed while listening to podcasts and knitting. Tony alternated between snuggling with me, biting my yarn, and trying to drink my lemonade.

Next week will be hard. I haven't been getting at all better from this cold, and next week is open house. My classroom needs some serious attention. I have a whole bulliten board that needs to be re-done, plus several other class sets of things that need to be put up.

I did manage to finish that second pair of socks today, so maybe I'll take pictures tomorrow.

Mission sweater: accomplished

All hail the baby sweater. I am super proud of myself. This is my first garment, and I think it turned out rather well! Of course, I've never put seen it on a real baby, so it may be a little off where I changed the neck dimensions.

I convinced my teddy bear, Clifford, to try it on. He obliged, being used to cross dressing. You see, his original name was Heathcliff, and he wore boy clothes until my couisin was born and we sent all the baby clothes to them. Then, my mom convinced me that he should become a girl named Cliffina, and he wore a dress. By the time the boy clothes returned, I had read Wuthering Heights and didn't really want Heathcliff the demonically intense lover anywhere near me. So, Clifford. In a pretty sweater.

Dinner tonight

I had...
brie
crackers
strawberries
little potatoes
cauliflower

Not quite normal, but much better for me than my usual cheesy last minute meal!

Oh, and the baby sweater is blocking, which means that it is wettened and pinned into shape. I'll seam up the arms and sew in the ends tomorrow, and then you'll get to see it!

I've done a bit of updating to the sidebar --->
Yay! New links, some defunct ones removed.

Other than that, I'm having an interesting weekend. Today I spent 7 hours grading essays from my district's 6th graders. I think I read somewhere between 80 and 100. I also, crazily, told them to contact me if they needed help completing the rest that need second readers.

Tuesday and Thursday of this week I will be grading math performance assessments. I obviously have nothing better to do, unless you count knitting while watching law and order. But hey! I get free meals and hourly pay. Let's cross one breakfast, one lunch, and two dinners off of the "Sarah eats cheese when she is alone" shopping list.

Speaking of which, I need to go get more Goldy's Roasted Garlic Spread, nectar of the gods. Oh. Also some parmesan for snacking. And maybe more swiss because I'm about to eat the rest of the package.

Look, a ponytail!

Oh my gosh I am making the MOST BEAUTIFUL baby sweater right now for my friend's daughter who will be born in late May or early June. Of course, everythig could go wrong when I finish it, but... let's cross our fingers for what will probably be my first completed garment. I'll take a picture once it looks somewhat like a sweater. The way it is being made looks quite confusing and non-sweatery.

(It is Elizabeth Zimmerman's February baby sweater. See one of my inspirations here.

I just bought two books and one of them seems to smell like dog. There are no dogs in bookstores. Why the funk?

Edited to add: After further investigation, it appears that neither book is the stinky culprit. Rather, it is the tissue paper they were wrapped in. To the trash with you!

Podcasts

I have recently discovered the amazingness that is podcasting. I'm currently trying out a couple Spanish instruction podcasts. Notes in Spanish intermediate and Coffee Break Spanish.

I also have a couple knitting podcasts. (Some are drastically better than others.) I like Stash and Burn even though they giggle a lot, and Cast On, which is quite serious and quietish, and has whole songs in it. I think the idea is to knit while you listen.

Ahh... done!

You can bet I didn't get much else done today. In fact, I'm still in my pjs! Don't worry, there will be no sock photo tomorrow. It is gorgeous, by the way. I got them to fit perfectly by extending the length by an inch, and I didn't run out of yarn! Yay, because I don't want to spend even more money on these things. Over 10 dollars per sock, my friends. 10 dollars and 6 days of work for a single sock.

I have no idea why I can't get that photo to flip around....

I decided to use a real camera this time and take a semi-decent picture. Sock should be finished this weekend.

I'm looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow. I have no plans. (Except grocery shopping, which I really haven't done for a few months, not counting quick trips to get milk and ingredients for one night's dinner.) The fridge is bare!

Presenting.... my sock! It now looks like a sock, even.

Look, a birdie!

No, I said no bunny ears. Stop it.

I have no business being awake at 1 am AGAIN.

Yeah. I guess I'm going to do this until I finish my first sock.

I stayed up late tonight hoping to talk to Steve after he gets off work in Japan (It is 5:20 pm now) but I think I need to go to bed. So, since I can't talk to him tonight, I'll just put up a cute lil picture of Tony and I.

We miss you! (This is baby Tony, last summer.)
